After the inception of NIANP, the library facilities began to be shared with SRS of NDRI library. Within two years, the NIANP Library was shifted completely to a small building within the premises of the institute in the NDRI campus. Since Mr.G.Sivasankararamakrishnan’s assuming charge as Librarian, it is being maintained properly with added journals in Animal Nutrition and Animal Physiology and related subjects. The library has also added ‘Animal Production (CABI) – (formerly BEAST) and AGRIS CD-ROM databases put to open access. The library is well furnished with journal display racks, book stack sufficiently. The library shifted over to network environment with a server linking a desktop computer, a laser printer, a dot matrix printer, and a scanner. In 2003 the ‘ Library and Information Centre ‘ was moved to a new spacious building ideally located within the NIANP Campus. The library also got its funds from NATP project meant for ‘Strengthening of Library Improvement and Networking Project’. The Library is presently subscribing to a new set of ‘5’ general magazines and ‘6’ leading news papers including some in ‘Kannada and Hindi’. The library facilities are open to the students of Veterinary Colleges, Veterinary Universities and those from other ICAR sister institute for their reference work. The library renders reprographic services, print out and downloads from digital and reference resources to the Scientists, students, and trainees. The library subscribes to ‘30’ Foreign Journals and ‘43’ Indian Journal titles for the benefit / use of its readers. In addition, the library has around ‘500’ titles of reference / textbooks put to use of scientists, staff of other ICAR sister concerns, students from the Veterinary Universities and trainees. Stationary involved services are fixed with a nominal price tag, which has generated revenue of Rs. 3.62 lakhs since 2002. This service includes providing photocopies, digital print out, downloads, sale of old newspapers, magazines and library special discount both on Foreign Journals and purchase of books-Indian and Foreign. The amount of library budget is around Rs.18 -20 lakhs for each financial year. The Library has a lot of developmental plans as visualized by Dr. K.T.Sampath, Director, NIANP and awaits implementation shortly. The internal administration is supervised by Dr. N.K.S.
